Vampire. Incubus. Demigod. Weapon.

Matthew has many names, but none as distressing as pet. A slave to incubus High King Malarath, Matthew is tired. Tired of fighting. Tired of losing those he loves. Tired of the torture. And, in his despair, his body begins to decay around him.

The High King, angered that his pet is dying, brings in the one person who might be able to fix Matthew: High Lord General Tarrick.

While all trust Matthew had in the general is gone, maybe there is hope in the situation. All Matthew needs to do is start acting like an incubus and put on a show.

Author’s note: This book contains dark scenes. Reader discretion is advised.

Where should I begin, where should I begin

So when Matthew awakes he finds himself…hahahaha, you know me already, I will not tell what’s going to happen! But I will tell you this:
Matthew is a slave again. He’s at the mercy of the High King and Prescott, the leader of Argonauts. But mercy is a word that those two don’t have in their vocabulary. Matthew is tortured, humiliated, starved…and we can witness all this in great detail. This book is darker than the previous ones, much more torture, and much more pain. You find yourself wondering many times, what you would do if you were in his situation? Well me, myself I would end myself in a heartbeat. And that thought crosses Matthews mind too. Its then when he starts to turn into a ghoul. Now you may ask what’s a ghoul? Let’s just say that when a vampire is depressed his body starts to die. He starts to rot alive. And that’s what’s happening to Matthew.

Although Samantha’s advice to not let the King break him, he finds himself broke inside. The only thing keeps him calm is that the household of the High King doesn’t know about Samantha…well, that will change…

Matthew misses Devak big time, but he’s pushing the feelings aside. Him, not mourning his love, adds to the process to become a ghoul. Well, High King Malarath can’t have that, after all, he “invested” so much in his pet (and by “invested” I mean tortured).
You can’t even imagine the torture, physical, psychical and emotional, Matthew suffers. But then something happens, something really, really bad that makes him start to fight back. Him being alone (another thing to go into the column of ’reasons become a ghoul’) and following Samantha’s advice, he most trust Tarrick with his secrets.

Well, f**k Tarrick! That guy still irritates me with his bullshit behavior. In my honest opinion, it’s all pretending, to be strong and gathered and confident. The asshole needs a wiping, a good one, that I hope I will see happening in the future…oops! I said future? Yeah…there will be a future with interesting happenings, turnabouts and I hope with Matthew becoming what he’s destined for… Oh my god, my fingers are itching to “tell” you more but I can’t…I’m so, so sorry…not.

This book reveals many secrets, many reasons why the war is still on. We will meet new characters, interesting characters, and old ones too. We will witness Tarrick doing something that no one would expect from him, why? Well not because he loves Matthew right? Right…

Although this book is long, I could keep reading it for another month or eleven.

Jex Lane, you did it again, so please hurry up with the next book!

***I would like to thank the author for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book***
