Ben has Christmas, cats, and mistletoe on his side…. Jason doesn’t stand a chance
For Ben Slater, moving back to Bristol means being closer to his family, living with his best mate, and volunteering at the local animal shelter. But there’s also Jason, his best mate’s eldest brother. Ben’s had a crush on Jason for as long as he can remember, but the eleven-year age gap has always seemed insurmountable.
Jason Armitage works as a vet at his uncle’s practice. He owns a cute cottage on the outskirts of the city, and a loving dog. The one thing missing is someone to share it all with. His brother’s best friend seems a bad choice, but Jason can’t help taking a second look. Ben’s changed a lot since Jason last saw him; both in appearance and attitude. Gone is the shy young boy, replaced with a confident, twenty-four-year-old man.
In the run up to Christmas, the festive period gives Ben the ideal opportunity to show Jason what he has to offer. But concerns for his brother’s feelings hold Jason back. If they have any chance of making this work, Ben must convince Jason that he’s old enough to know what he wants, and Jason needs to believe that a relationship with his brother’s best friend won’t ruin their friendship.

I loved Not Just For Christmas by Annabelle Jacobs. This Christmas story is about Ben and Jason. Ben and Liam have been best friends since they were in nappies and since Ben has been old enough to have crushes on boys, he’s had a crush on Liam’s older brother Jason. And as we know with teenagers, they aren’t very subtle about who they’re crushing on and so both, Liam’s and Ben’s, families knew about the huge crush that Ben had on Jason. However there was an 11-year difference in age, and so the crush was very one-sided and not reciprocated by Jason, at that time. However, Ben’s moving back home after finishing university and will be moving in with Liam and paying rent. Ben has a whole month’s paid vacation from his last job, and in that time, he’s going to help Liam renovate Liam’s new house and volunteer with Liam at the animal shelter.

Ben’s both anxious and excited to see Liam’s older brother Jason again to see if he still has feelings for him. Ben gets his chance to find out his first night back when Liam’s family invites them over for family dinner, and Jason’s there. And Jason looks just the same as he had before and Ben’s feelings are just as intense as they had been before he left. And the best part is that Liam and Ben have already discussed his crush on his brother and Liam’s okay with it since it wasn’t exactly a secret that Ben had a crush on Jason. The big question is will Ben have the self-confidence to pursue Jason now that he’s an adult? And will Jason be able to see him as anything more than just his younger brother’s sidekick and kid that he had to babysit and change his nappies?

Jason works as a veterinarian and is happy with the way his life is going. He has his beloved dog and his house and a job that he loves. So what if he gets lonely sometimes. Not that he’s lonely enough to do anything to change it. But when Ben and Liam bring in a kitten that’s been involved in a car accident, Ben starts coming in to visit the kitten and Jason gets to see the adult that Ben has matured into and he likes the man that Ben has become. Jason wrestles with his new feelings of attraction for Ben, and after their shared night of passion, he panics about what his family and his brother will do when they find out. Even though Ben has already told him that Liam is okay with them being together, Jason won’t believe him until he can talk to Liam himself and make sure that he is indeed okay with him having a relationship with Ben. But will Ben still be there when Jason gets his head out of his behind and goes after him after giving him the cold shoulder? Will their relationship make it past the one night of passion? And if it does, will it be just a holiday fling or will it be more?

I loved the chemistry between Jason and Ben, and I can’t wait to read it again.

***I would like to thank the author for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book ***
