BLURB:

If pride goeth before a fall, what does bitter and nasty get you? If you’re Romeo Gatti, you end up a lonely recluse with no friends and no love life to speak of. He might be part of the Wildcat Hills Pride, but with his prickly personality, he’s not going to be a candidate for pride mate of the month anytime soon. A nasty break-up has hardened his heart and also his resolve to never be hurt again. That is, until Jules Armitage breezes into Wildcat Hills.
Politics might be the art of the possible, but diplomacy can be a balancing act, even at the best of times. Which these aren’t. As ambassador, Jules finds himself walking a dangerous tightrope. One misstep can spell disaster. When he finds himself tossed off pride lands by Alpha Xander himself, Jules has no choice but to leave his unclaimed mate behind, to both their chagrins.
Behind the smoke and mirrors lies truth. But will Jules ever get the chance to tell Romeo the reality of his situation, and will the other man even be willing to listen? Sometimes honesty can get you killed, if it falls into the wrong hands…

Romeo’s Regret is the fifth book in the Wildcat Hills Pride series by Liza Kay. I loved this book. It had action, suspense, mystery, love, angst, misunderstanding, and hot chemistry and scenes. It made me laugh, cry and at times want to hit the characters in the back of the head. I loved getting to see Asa, Alpha Xander and the other members of the pride again. The books are each about a different couple that finds their fated mate, but there is a main plot/storyline that flows through the series and ties them together so I would recommend reading them in order. The story has a fast flow to it, and I enjoyed reading it just as much the second time around as I did the first.

The story starts off with Jules getting kicked off of pride lands and sent back to his job at the council. Jules is an ambassador and was checking out Xander and the Wildcat Hills Pride for the council. He didn’t expect to find his mate while he was there. However, everybody thinks that he’s a traitor and that he’s working for the corrupt council member Richard Thoreau and his mate wants nothing to do with him. And since he’s kicked off of pride lands, he isn’t able to fix the problem with his mate or claim him before leaving.

I loved Jules. He’s a wren bird shifter and a cute little twink and a dedicated bottom. He’s sweet but feisty and not used to doing brave things. He has a brother that hates him because he’s gay that also works for the council. But what Jules’ mate doesn’t know is that Jules is really working for Xander and is trying to uncover as much information as he can on Thoreau so that they can take him down. But will he manage to get the info out and make it back to the pride safely or will he get caught and need to be rescued?

I loved Romeo. He’s an ocelot cat shifter, and he’s kind of a hermit and the resident techno-geek. He joined Xander’s pride when he was kicked out of his by his father when he refused to breed a female and strengthen the bloodline. His father already knew that he was gay, and in addition to kicking him out and replacing him with somebody else, he also branded his chest with one of the brands that they used on their cattle. So to say that he has trust issues is an understatement. So he isn’t thrilled to find out that his mate is a traitor and working for the bad guys or so he initially thinks. Romeo is also a dedicated bottom and is the same size as his mate Jules. But don’t let that worry you that fate has put two dedicated bottoms together that there isn’t plenty of hot scenes where they get pretty creative with their toys.

I also loved getting to see more of Asa, Xander, Malcolm, Alan, Finley, Vaughn, and Bailey. And the new guys from Europe, President Armand who just happens to be one of Jules’ exes and Armand’s secret informant who has been undercover for two years working for the council trying to get Intel. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I need to know what’s going on with Malcolm and Bailey and if they are mates. And Vaughn and Finley and what’s causing all of the tension between them. Oh and I so want to find out who the mate is for Armand and his undercover agent.

I also can’t wait to find out what happens with the villain Thoreau.

***The ARC was provided by eXtasy Books. My review is an honest opinion of the book ***
